Registration is now open for the DIVERSIFAIR Industry Workshop: Practical Approaches to Fairer AI in Industry. This interactive workshop will explore how AI fairness is addressed in industry settings, focusing on the limits of technical solutions and the value of systemic approaches. Participants will reflect on real-world examples, discuss practical strategies, and explore tools from the DIVERSIFAIR Fair AI Scrum handbook.

🎤 Hosts: 

Eliza Hobo (TNO) – Scientist in Responsible AI. Eliza’s work focusses on Fairness and bias in AI, exploring how biases occur in AI models and what the real world harms of those are, specifically for marginalised people. 

Quirine Smit (TNO) – Scientist Responsible Hybrid AI. Quirine’s work combines different types of AI to combine the strengths of these approaches for more responsible and fair AI.

Aim 

To support tech professionals in recognising the limitations of fairness tools and incorporating intersectional thinking into the design, development, and evaluation of AI systems. 

Who should attend

This workshop is designed for professionals in industry, including AI practitioners, engineers, product managers, and compliance specialists interested in fair and inclusive AI practice. 

Why attend 

To design AI systems that don’t just check fairness boxes, but actually serve diverse users, and avoid reputational, legal, or ethical risks. 

This workshop will help:  

  • Recognise how fairness tools often fall short without systemic insight
  • Explore the shift from observational fairness (focused on data) to participatory fairness (involving real users and lived experience)
  • Learn from real cases where intersectional harm emerged despite good intentions
  • Take practical steps toward more responsible, human-centered AI
