The DIVERSIFAIR consortium will be at EWAF 2025 (European Workshop on Algorithmic Fairness, 30 June – 2 July), presenting two contributions that reflect our commitment to intersectional fairness and critical, applied AI research.
DIVERSIFAIR at EWAF 2025: Sharing Practical Tools and Critical Reflections on Fairer AI
Poster: “Working with Intersectional Fairness: A Handbook for Scrum Teams”
Date: Monday 30 June, 4 pm CEST (poster #13)
Presenter: Eliza Hobo
This poster introduces our ongoing work on the Fair AI Scrum Handbook — a practical guide to embedding intersectional fairness into AI development within Scrum teams. Rather than reducing fairness to a checklist or a developer’s task, the handbook offers conversation starters and collaborative tools to foster shared responsibility across roles. Drawing on academic research in intersectional fairness, the handbook helps translate theory into practice for interdisciplinary teams working in iterative development contexts.
Poster & presentation : “Detecting Discrimination in Job Vacancies: A Critical Reflection on the Potential of AI Language Models”
In-depth session: Tuesday 1 July, 11:30 am CEST (lecture hall 5)
Poster presentation: Tuesday 1 July, 2:30 pm CEST (poster #11)
Presenter: Steven Vethman
This contribution explores how AI language models could support labour authorities in detecting explicit discrimination in job advertisements. While these technologies show promise in improving the efficiency of identifying biased vacancies, our research—based on model evaluation and ten expert interviews—emphasises that ethical and social considerations must guide such use. This poster and presentation together argue for cautious, context-aware deployment, even when AI tools are used in the service of public good.
Also on the Programme: Raphaële Xenidis Keynote
Date: Monday 30 June, 9:15 am CEST
DIVERSIFAIR consortium member Raphaële Xenidis will deliver a keynote on Monday 30 June, titled: “Algorithmic Governance in Europe: Inside the Digital Machinery of Discrimination”, offering a deep dive into how digital systems mediate power and discrimination across European governance contexts.
