As part of the DIVERSIFAIR Erasmus+ project, we are excited to invite policy makers, regulators, and researchers to our Policy Workshop: Rethinking AI Fairness: Policy Gaps and Inclusive Action. 

This interactive session explores how AI policies address – or overlook – fairness, with a focus on intersectional harms. Through expert presentations, case studies, and group discussions, participants will examine policy blind spots and explore tools for more inclusive AI governance.

🎤 Hosts: 

Ilina Georgieva, LL.M. – Senior Specialist Scientist in AI Governance and Regulation (TNO), DIVERSIFAIR scientific lead, and External PhD Researcher at Leiden University. 

Susan Leavy – Assistant Professor, School of Information & Communication, University College Dublin. Member of the Irish Government AI Advisory Council and nominee to the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI). 

Aim 

Equip policymakers and regulators with practical tools to spot gaps in AI governance and design more inclusive, effective policies using an intersectional lens.

  1. Welcome & Introduction (5 min)
  2. Building the Foundations: Understanding Fairness and Its Limits (25 min)
    Establish baseline knowledge on AI fairness and highlight where current frameworks fall short when intersectionality is not considered.
  3. Spotting the Blind Spots: Critically Examining Fairness (25 min)
    Explore why intersectional harms are often overlooked and identify gaps in policy and governance interventions.
  4. Putting It Into Practice: Applying Intersectional Insights (35 min)
    Discuss how intersectionality can inform the interpretation and implementation of the EU AI Act, using real-world examples to illustrate how inclusive approaches can strengthen fairness and policy effectiveness.
  5. Wrap-Up & Reflections (15 min)
